Goal is to Replicate the Model at Other California Universities
Through a $2.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, UC Davis’ MIND Institute and Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is establishing a four-year college program for students with intellectual disabilities. This new program is expected to start in the fall 2021 with 12 students who hold diagnoses such as autism, Down’s syndrome, fragile X syndrome and other neurodevelopmental disabilities. Students enrolled in this program will live on campus, attend classes, participate in extracurricular activities and will be fully integrated into the university’s daily life. Once this innovative program is established, the program’s creators aim is to bring their model to each of the University of California and California State University campuses.
