A Tribute to Former SafeMinds Research Committee Member Gayle DeLong

January 10, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former SafeMinds supporter Gayle DeLong. Gayle left us after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind two daughters, Jennifer and Flora, and her husband, Jonathan. Also left behind are many friends in the autism community who are forever grateful for her contributions to autism advocacy.

Over the years, SafeMinds was lucky to have Gayle involved in our mission. She served on the SafeMinds Research Committee from 2008 to 2011, helping us identify research projects looking at autism epidemiology, causation and treatments. Starting in 2005, Gayle led her family on a biomedical research journey to treat her daughters’ autism-related symptoms. Both girls benefited greatly from supplements, diet, chelation and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Gayle’s wish was for other autism families to learn about the biomedical treatments that helped her daughters.

Gayle held a Ph.D. in international business and finance from New York University as well as an International Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. She taught international finance at Baruch College, City University of New York.

Gayle’s  family has asked that in lieu of flowers, friends and family make a contribution in her name to Children’s Health Defense.

Goodbye Gayle. You will be missed beyond measure.
