- A new study has examined prior and co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses in men and women with autism. The research discovered that 50% of the cohort had at least one prior diagnosis and 59% had at least one co-occurring condition. Approximately 38% had at least one prior condition that was not retained after receiving an autism diagnosis.
- UC Davis is launching a four-year college program for students with intellectual disabilities. Applications are currently being accepted for this innovative project which is partly funded by a five-year, $2.1 million U.S. Department of Education grant.
- Another recent study has investigated sleep disturbances and autism. This time the research focused on sleep issues and their relationship to psychiatric conditions and executive functioning. The study concluded that sleep disturbances can worsen psychiatric pathology but does not affect executive functioning in individuals with autism.
- A new fascinating article in Spectrum tells the story of the first child in Holland to be diagnosed with autism and the nun who cared for him.
