On Average Black Children Diagnosed 2 Years Later Than Other Races
Earlier this month, SafeMinds Shares covered a disturbing news story that reported that obtaining an autism diagnosis takes longer for African American Children. To make this startling fact a thing of the past, a research team out of Washington University in St. Louis, using a long-standing grant from the State of Missouri, is evaluating at-risk Black children at their Autism Clinical Center. Additionally, through a partnership with the Steward Family Foundation, these same researchers developed a new intervention initiative called The Early Strides Program that aims to provide top-notch early intervention services for newly diagnosed African American children with the intent of achieving the best outcomes for these children’s future.
