- IACC is holding a strategic plan working group meeting on July 13 and 14, 2022. Both meetings are from 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. EDT. The purpose of this meeting is for IACC members to discuss the 2021-2022 Strategic Plan for Autism Research, Services, and Policy, which is currently under development. Pre-registration for this free event is recommended.
- New research from Japan found that children of mothers with high levels of physical activity during pregnancy were less likely to develop autism. The same study alos discovered that children of mothers who slept less than six hours or longer than ten hours a night were also more likely to develop autism. The researchers behind this study suggest that maternal inflammation and metabolic disorders are possible causal pathways that link maternal lifestyle (e.g., exercise and sleep habits) with the risk of autism in offspring.
- Don’t miss Autism Research Institute’s newest webinar, Gender Differences in Functional Brain Organization in Autism. Kaustubh Supekar, Ph.D. will present the webinar and share his recent findings on how girls with autism differ in several brain centers compared with boys with autism. This free online event is at 1 p.m. (EDT) on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
- Social Security and Supplemental Security Income are expected to rise again in 2023. Due to growing inflation, the automatic cost of living adjustment (COLA) could be at 8% next year. The Social Security Administration will announce in October what the COLA rate will be for 2023.
- The Autism Community in Action (TACA) will be holding its first in-person national Autism Conference on October 14-16, 2022, at the Hilton Orange County in Costa Mesa, California. Registration is open and ongoing. Grab your spot today!
