- A new study from UC Davis shows that certain maternal and cord blood metabolites were associated with neuroinflammation in non-typically developing children. These metabolites may play a role in the development of autism.
- A Colorado water park has been designated as a certified autism center. - Researchers at UCSD have been using brain organoids that can mimic brain size differences in people with autism. Certain people with genetic deletions associated with ASD have larger heads (macrocephaly) and people with genetic duplications have smaller heads (microcephaly). Both variations affect brain development and function. The scientists hope their model will further the study of autism and help develop therapeutic options.
