- It took a full two years, but IACC has finally seated a new committee. The new members will serve a three-year term, ending in 2024. The first meeting of the newly appointed committee will take place virtually on July 21-22, 2021. It will be open to the public via webcast.
- The Child Mind Institute tackles the subject of childhood loneliness by publishing an in-depth article on the topic. The organization looks at the root causes of childhood loneliness, how to identify the condition, what to say to a lonely child, and how to help a child suffering from the issue.
- Last week we shared an article on the topic of “age appropriateness” and autism written by a young adult on the spectrum who had misgivings on the subject. This week we found another viewpoint on “age appropriateness,” written by an autism advocate. This piece encourages individuals on the spectrum to mature their interests and behaviors. The article also includes a list of suggestions to reach this goal.
- A recent article published in BE Latina calls for more equity in how Black and Hispanic children are diagnosed (or not) with autism. The author additionally calls for more access to early treatments to provide underrepresented children with special needs the brightest future possible.
- According to a new study, neonatal sepsis is linked with an increased risk of autism for children born prematurely and on time. The association was pronounced for both girls and boys for all race ethnicities except for Asian-Pacific Islander children.
