- A family from Maine credits stem cell therapy received in Panama, as the principal reason that their once severely affected son with autism was able to graduate from high school last week.
- The Autism Community in Action (TACA) Orange County Chapter is hosting a virtual parent support meeting discussing “Life After High School” for kids on the spectrum. The event will be held on Thursday, June 24 from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. PDT. Registration is needed prior to the meeting.
- A new study has discovered that only half (50.3%) of the 6156 outpatient mental health treatment facilities in the United States offer care for children with autism. Non-metro counties, counties with a lower percentage of non-White residents, counties with a higher percentage of uninsured residents and counties with a higher poverty rate had fewer outpatient mental health treatment facilities than other counties without these demographics.

- The U.S. Preventative Task Force has just released its final research plan called, “Screening for Autism Disorder in Young Children.”
- A recently released Jordanian study examining heavy metal and trace elements in hair samples of children with severe ASD has found that exposure to aluminum and lead coupled with an increased intake of potassium and a decreased intake of magnesium and zinc may contribute to the development of autism. This study’s findings call into question the AAP’s recent recommendation to stop heavy metal testing in children with autism.
