The Lifespan Respite Care Reauthorization Act Increases Funds from $2.5 M to $10 M Annually
Most people dealing with significant health challenges do not have access to respite services. Estimates show that approximately 53 million American family members provide $470 billion worth of unpaid care to ill or special needs individuals each year. In order to fight this dismal statistic, the Lifespan Respite Care Reauthorization Act was passed and signed into federal law earlier this month. The measure increases funding for the Lifespan Respite Program from $2.5 million to $10 million annually through 2024. The program supports a system of community-based respite care services throughout the country providing flexibility and creativity to ensure quality respite care services for those who need it.
