Severe Housing Shortage Produces Creative Living Ideas

Crosspoint Bridge is an upcoming 15-acre planned community on the outskirts of Indianapolis that will offer homes to adults with and without developmental disabilities. This unique and pioneering housing project will provide homes of various sizes and also include a community center which will host social clubs and classes to promote independent living skills. Unlike many other communities for adults with special needs, Crosspoint Bridge is special. The community will allow families to purchase a home for their loved one. Crosspoint Bridge’s developers recognized that with home ownership many parents’ desire for more permanence and control over their children’s housing accommodations could be achieved. Other similar communities to Crosspoint Bridge are popping up across the country. Due to the severe housing shortage for adults with disabilities, comparable developments in Phoenix, Texas, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Maryland are also being built. Most of these projects will offer the flexibility of either renting or purchasing homes.
